Trainers Needed for Updated MEECS Workshops – Funding Available

For the past couple of years, EGLE has been working with Central Michigan University through Great Lakes Restoration Initiative funding to update the Water Quality and Ecosystems/Biodiversity units of the Michigan Environmental Education Curriculum Support (MEECS). I’m pleased to share that the unit development is very nearly complete, and we’re now looking for organizations who are interested in helping us train Michigan educators on the updated units.

Our goal is to train 600 educators in these updated units by the end of 2023, which means we need help! To do this, EGLE has issued a competitive RFP for contractors to help us train Michigan educators in newly updated units.

A total of $63,000 is available to fund contracted organizations to:

  1. Attend a train-the-trainer workshop in winter 2023
  2. Hold educator workshops around the state (assuming an average of 20 participants per workshop, this adds up to around 30 workshops total statewide that we hope to see)

This funding could be available to a single organization that can demonstrate their ability to hold workshops statewide, but it’s more likely that it will be split between multiple contractors each doing workshops in their own region. Nonprofit, for-profit, and educational institutions are all encouraged to bid on this work.

Funding is available through a contract basis. A copy of the RFP is attached for your information but interested organizations must submit a bid for the project through

Please direct all questions, including those about how to navigate the SIGMA platform, to our procurement staff, Lisa VanOstran at VanOstranL.
