Michigan Advancing Equity in STEM (MAE-STEM): deficit thinking

On February 24, MAE-STEM math and science education leaders gathered (virtually) to talk through recognizing and responding to deficit thinking/language, particularly when applied to our students. We considered,

  • What is ‘deficit thinking’ and ‘deficit language’?

  • How does it impact our students?

  • How can we think differently? Act differently?
